ICO E Grout
ICO E-Grout, our three-part, 100% solids epoxy grout designed for installation under heavy equipment. It is designed as a grout cap between the concrete foundation and the bottom of the machine base. Its free-flowing characteristics enables a precise fit between the machined equipment base bottom and the irregular concrete floor. It is typically applied from 2" to 4" thick in a single pass without shrinkage or warpage even at elevated temperatures. As a resin-rich, three-part epoxy, ICO E-Grout has some significant advantages over cheaper cementitous grouts:
- It can be applied over relatively "green" concrete (1 to 2 days after pour).
- It is chemically resistant throughout its entire thickness to most low-medium concentrations of inorganic acids, caustics, oils, grease and lubricants.
- It can support loads up to 20,000psi and with tensile strengths of 5 times that of concrete and is much more resistant to lateral cracking from vibratory equipment compared to concrete.
- It has bond strength that exceeds the cohesive strength of cement, resulting in much longer life cycles then cementitious grouts.
- It cures within 24 hours, enabling installation of the equipment to proceed rapidly.
With proper functioning of the machinery so dependent on the stability of the base, as well as its resistance to shear and high torque, the initial higher cost of epoxy grouts can prove to be a significant cost savings in the long run as it greatly reduces expensive equipment downtime, as well as aiding the equipment in operating at peak efficiencies.
As with any repair, the successful installation of ICO E-Grout is greatly dependent on the integrity of the concrete substrate, as well as the quality of the anchoring system. It can be applied over a sound, clean, abraded substrate. All deteriorated concrete must be removed (and if it is down to the rebar, then that too, must be repaired or replaced), filled to the existing surface with a polymer cement or ICO Quik Patch, followed by application of our grout. Proper high strength anchor bolts made per ASTM A-193 specs should be used. For extra anchoring protection, the ICO E-Grout and underlying concrete can be cored, and then filled with our ICO Gel epoxy filler material, flush with the surface, prior to installing the bolts.
